The heat is on in Horry County and the battle between outdoor temperatures and the temperatures we expect in our homes is raging. We have some tips to help you keep summer temperatures from burning up your energy dollars.
Protecting your energy dollars from the heat
The weather has a huge impact on the amount of electricity you use. Understanding that is essential to being able to do something about it.
One of the best things you can do is stick with our recommendation of setting your thermostat at 68 in the winter and 78 in the summer. Set it and forget it. Moving the thermostat up or down even one degree can make a huge impact on the amount of energy you use. You won’t know what hit you until the electric bill arrives.
Instead of taking a physical daily reading of your meter, you can take advantage of monitoring your energy use with MyUsage.com, a FREE online tool available to members of Horry Electric Cooperative.
Keeping an eye on how much electricity you use each day is another proactive step you can take. Getting a reading from the Horry Electric meter on your home can be very enlightening. We recommend doing it at least once a day to track what you’re using from one day to the next. As you do, make a note of your activities during the day that may have required electricity.
