Current Word, a newsletter published at least twice a year, is one of the items. “It’s time for Annual Meeting and we want our members to go ahead and mark their calendars now for Tuesday, April 12,” says Penelope Hinson, manager of public relations, marketing and energy management for Horry Electric. “We’ll be at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center again this year and doors open for registration and voting at noon.”
The registration gift this year is a $15 electric bill credit. Each member who is present and registers in person at the Annual Meeting between the hours of noon and 7 p.m. will get a $15 credit on their electric bill. “We have all sorts of activities planned for the event,” says Hinson, adding that entertainment provided by Carl Brunson begins at 2 p.m. and Carolina Sonshine will take the stage at 4 p.m. until the beginning of the business meeting at 7 p.m.
Democratic member control is one of the seven cooperative principles. “Attending, registering and voting at the Annual Meeting is a great way for folks to take advantage of being a member of their electric cooperative,” says Hinson. Attendees at this year’s meeting will be electing candidates, who are also members of the cooperative, to represent them on the board of trustees for a three-year term beginning April 13.
Candidates this year include Johnny M. Shelley for District 3 and Eugene Harriott for District 8. Both are running unopposed. Incumbent Marcus Gerald is running against Freddy Thompkins, a nominee, to represent the members in District 9. “Details about the candidates running for election will be included in the April edition of South Carolina Living, which will be mailed early next month,” says Hinson.
“The other item inserted in electric bills this month is from Santee Cooper,” says Hinson. “They’re promoting their Mini-Bond sale and have produced inserts to let our members know they’ll be accepting orders for the 2011 Series M1 Mini-Bonds between April 1 and April 29.”
Keeping members updated and informed about what is going on with their cooperative is one way we’re looking out for you.
