Outages are possible tonight

When calling Horry Electric Cooperative to report an outage, please call PowerTouch, our automated Outage Reporting System, at 369-2212. Listen carefully to the instructions and be prepared to leave a detailed message. Information about whether or not your neighbor’s lights are also out; if you have lights in only part of your home; if you can see lines down or if you heard a loud noise just prior to the outage is extremely helpful to Horry Electric Cooperative’s emergency crews.

Horry Electric and the members in its service area dodged the weather bullet during the day today, but outages are possible tonight as temperatures hover around the freezing mark and precipitation continues.

Horry Electric Cooperative’s office closed at 3 this afternoon and crews were released from the office at 3:30.  “Crews remain on standby to resolve any outage problems we might experience overnight,” says W.I. Jones, manager of operations for Horry Electric.

Office employees are also on call.  “We closed the office early due to the inclement weather and the potential driving hazards it posed for employees who live in parts of the county affected more dramatically than what we experienced during the day today in Conway,” says Danny Shelley, chief financial officer for the cooperative.  “Employees who live close the office are on standby throughout the night and will be called in to help answer member calls if we have any outages issues related to the ice expected in our area.”

Horry Electric Cooperative’s offices will open at 8 a.m. tomorrow (Tuesday) morning and officials expect to be able to observe regular office hours, which are 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
